What is it? What are you doing to build it?

If you don't have a personal brand, why?

A young woman asked about the benefits of personal branding in relationship to her job search. I said one result is the job may come looking for you, instead of the reverse. If they see you have something to offer, they may seek you out. They'll see the benefit of having you part of their organization, before you walk in for the interview.

She liked that, but she didn't like the idea of networking, blogging, participating, attending, discussing, altering, spending, responding — it seemed exhausting. You know what? It is. It's a lot of work to stand out in a crowd and convince people you are worth getting to know.

But isn't that the heart of our business? Isn't that what we do for out clients?

One would think you would work hard to accomplish that for yourself.

It may take months, maybe a year(s) to create a respected persona - your brand. Not every brand is an overnight success and there may be a lot of tweaking, before you get it right.

But when people finally respond, the work will be worth it.
