Your portfolio has more pages than a Harry Potter novel.

If you were asked to create your biography in ten pages orless, could you do it? Basically, you’d just narrow it down to just the goodparts, right?
Creative directors and recruiters across the country areasking you to do the same with your portfolios.
I recently conducted an informal, unscientific poll, onvarious web sites and emails, asking the question: What are some of the biggestmistakes you are seeing in candidates' portfolios?
Agencies want you to wow them with just 10-12 pages. Keep itbrief with your best. So be brutal with your work when you self-edit, or theresponses to your submissions may be brutal.
Take note: If you only have one portfolio, you're cutting yourself short.
Don't approach every agency the same way. What interests Agency 1 (pharma) maynot appeal to Agency 2 (business-to-business). That’s why it’s important to doyour homework. Check out the places you are applying to and build multipleportfolios accordingly. Online, divide up the work into chapters, but don’thave so many chapters, where your portfolio looks like an electronic novel.
Less is more. It’s quality, not quantity.
Monday we'll talk about content.
